Removing The Sash
The sash pivots in the window frame by means of two pivot pins which are located on the bottom rail of each sash. These fit into balance cams located on each side of the window in the jamb pockets of the frame.

  1. For Removing the Bottom Sash:
Raise the bottom sash approximately 3” up from the bottom of the window. Place your hands on either end of the top rail of the sash while grasping the tilt latch buttons with your index fingers. Using a sliding motion, move both tilt latch buttons towards the center of the sash, while supporting the sash with your hands.
Carefully pull the top rail in towards the interior of the room allowing it to pivot down towards the bottom of the window frame.
  2. For Removing the Top Sash:
Tilt the lower sash in as described above and then support it. Then lower the top sash approximately 3” from the top of the window.
In either case Stop rotating the sash when it is 90 degrees from the frame, or level with the floor. NOTE: The slot in the balance cams in the frame channel rotates as the sash is tilted in. The photo to the left (See image 1) shows a close up view of this slot with the sash already removed from the window. Rotation of this cam by the pivot pin on the sash engages a braking mechanism in the balance, locking it into place in the window frame.
  3. With the sash at the proper angle, you will be able to lift each corner of the sash out of the balance mechanism, disengaging the pivot pins from the cam. (See Image 2) Lift one corner out at a time.
Hint: Sometimes rotating the sash just past level and then back helps to align the cam.

Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting: If the cam slot becomes mis-aligned and the balance moves in the jamb pocket, you can use a flat blade screwdriver to re-position the balance and rotate the cam slot to the proper position, as shown on the left. (See image 3)
